Corpus Callosum · Structure
Genu
The front knee of the bridge.
The genu is the sharp forward bend of the corpus callosum. Its fibers connect the two prefrontal cortices, so the planning centers on both sides stay in step.
What it does
- Linking left and right prefrontal cortex
- Supporting attention and self-control
- Coordinating working memory across hemispheres
In the real world
Attention research
Thinner genu fibers show up in some people with ADHD, one clue that attention depends on how fast the two frontal lobes can talk to each other.
