Cerebellum · Structure
Deep Cerebellar Nuclei
The output gate of the little brain.
Almost everything the cerebellum computes leaves through these small clusters of neurons buried in its core, on the way to the brainstem, thalamus, and cortex.
What it does
- Relaying cerebellar output to the rest of the brain
- Storing long-term motor memories
- Timing rapid, ballistic movements
In the real world
Deep brain stimulation
Stimulating cerebellar output pathways is being tested to quiet tremor in people who don't respond to medication.
