Cerebellum · Structure
Vermis
The midline that keeps you upright.
The vermis is the worm-like strip down the center of the cerebellum, controlling posture, balance, and the muscles of your trunk and eyes.
What it does
- Maintaining balance and posture
- Controlling eye movement stability
- Coordinating walking rhythm
In the real world
Roadside sobriety tests
Alcohol hits the vermis hard, which is why heel-to-toe walking is a surprisingly good measure of intoxication.
