Corpus Callosum · Structure
Splenium
The rear bundle that shares what you see.
The splenium is the thick posterior end of the corpus callosum. It stitches together the visual worlds handled by each occipital lobe.
What it does
- Joining the left and right visual fields
- Supporting reading and word recognition
- Relaying memory signals between temporal lobes
In the real world
Alexia without agraphia
Damage to the splenium can leave people able to write a sentence but unable to read it back — proof that seeing words and producing them are separate routes.
